                                                                POLICE AND THE TASER

Lately the Canadian public have been horrified and appalled at the videos of police tasering a victim and then onslaught with clubs boots and knees; often the victim is multiply tasered first. What’s wrong with this scenario? Even if the victim is well deserved of being reprimanded is all the violence necessary? No!

Any policeman or woman is well trained in ‘takedown’ procedures. Prior to the taser one officer would quickly take down and cuff a suspect in minimum time. Now, that same officer would probably multiple taser the suspect and with the help of several more officers bludgeon and kick the suspect before handcuffing. Any observer, knowledgeable of the training of the police force can quickly see that once a suspect is tasered – once - immediately after being tasered there is a short period of helplessness; it is in this period of time that any police officer can quickly move in and handcuff the suspect without fear of a struggle – or in fact, any resistance of any type. Why then do the police bludgeon their suspects; fully knowing that it will be videoed and publicly viewed?

Precisely! Publicly viewed; brutality is a magnificent weapon to inflict fear among the people. People who have no fear are very hard to control, where as people who have been indoctrinated by fear will follow any command and any Law made – without question. Remember that!

The other aspect is human nature. Police officers are constantly confronting anti-social persons; eventually this ‘gets to them’ and they begin to see all people as bad acts. This produces an animosity within the police which leads to excessive violence while doing their job. Consequently, the police are acting more like a pack of wild dogs rather than protectors of the public. Add a taser to that attitude and you have the ability of an animistic person to render a person helpless to further attack – and the attacks follow, with a vengeance.

Until the powers that be provide workable policies to control the violent urges of the men and women on the police forces while using modern weaponry, the public will bear the brunt of the bullies of the badge.
